Jennifer Ghormley
I met Jennifer Ghormley last fall in a printmaking class at Metro. Jennifer was a hard working dedicated student then and continues to be now after her graduation. I was delighted when I saw this work at her thesis show. I found it to be thoughtful, delicate, feminine, mature, well crafted - I was so impressed, I thought it beautiful. Because I cannot articulate it better I give you Jennifer's words,

"My works focus largely on integrating self-referencing imagery with organic forms inspired by nature. The piecing together process of weaving, quilting and sewing emulates historical techniques employed by women. By combining hand made elements with self-portraiture, I am relating to the histories of women, their work and their art. Metaphoric seedpods reflect traits of my own personality. Layers are constructed to reflect and expose intricacies and depth of the inner self.By integrating a unique combination of two and three-dimensionality within a piece, I am able to push the boundaries of traditional printmaking. In the way that I create constructions and through the layering process, I am able to convey a sense of vulnerability. The onlooker is invited to explore the complex emotions unveiled thought this communication process.”
