Membership has the benefit of helping you become a part of a community and all that the word signifies, including the inspiration, friendship and support of active and committed artists, as well as the networking and shared knowledge necessary for discovering opportunities to advance one's art and career. Also it provides the opportunity to participate in a gallery with a 25 year plus history, and in a nonprofit organization eligible for grants to serve the Denver and Santa Fe communities.

Thank you for your interest in CORE.

FULL MEMBERSHIP

These are some benefits of a Full CORE membership:

1. Becoming a part of a community and all that the word signifies, including the inspiration, friendship and support of active and committed artists, as well as the networking and shared knowledge necessary for discovering opportunities to advance one's art and career.

2. The opportunity to participate in a gallery with a 25 year plus history, and in a nonprofit organization eligible for grants to serve the Denver and Santa Fe communities.

3. The use of 1/2 of the main galleries for a three-week period for each year of membership (12 months). This means that the member along with the one other member decide how to use, display and promote their own show.

The gallery must be open to the public during the posted times. ( Thursdays 12-5pm, Friday 12-10pm & Saturday 12-5pm) The artists exhibiting are responsible for hanging their show, taking down their show in a timely fashion and repairing walls prior to the next show. These artists are also responsible for refreshments on their opening night/s, supplying information about the show to the publicity chairman and cleaning the gallery before, during and after their show.

4. Participation in group shows, with all or part of the membership each year.

5. Free entry into open-entry shows. Note: CORE members are subject to the same jurying as non-members.

6. Exposure of your art on our website and links to your own site.

These are the Commitments one undertakes as a full member of CORE:

1. Payment of a $50 refundable key fee. And payment of a non returnable $50 introduction fee.

2. Payment of monthly dues. $55 due before the first of the month for which it is paid i.e.: (September dues are to be paid in August, etc.) No member may show in the gallery in any show if they are not current with their dues. Failing to meet this obligation can jeopardize your CORE membership. After three months of not paying dues your membership will be automatically forfeited.

3. Gallery sitting- It is a member's sole responsibility to find a replacement should that member not be able to sit a scheduled shift. Missing a shift forces the gallery to be closed to the public and is not acceptable. If a member does not sit their assigned shift the CORE membership can vote for sanction of that member and can consider revoking CORE membership.

4. Members must sit open entry and special event shows equally with other CORE members.

5. Participation in gallery activities:

a. Members are expected to attend monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm. Meetings run two hours or more. Meetings are one of the only ways we as members can forge the direction of CORE, have open and productive dialog about our concerns and attend to the business of running a non-profit business. Attendance is the responsibility of each member. Too many meetings missed can seriously effect the gallery in our mission to serve the community of CORE and all that it represents. Meetings are mandatory. You must notify one of the co-coordinators prior to the meeting if you are unable to attend.

b. Members are expected to perform a fair share of the work involved in a volunteer staffed non-profit gallery. Participation in (at least 3) non-member juried or special shows each year. This work involves: jurying or assisting the jurors, plus installing, taking down the show, sitting the show, hosting the opening, preparing tags, calling artists about their status in the show. Hanging the show can take 3 days or more. In your second year at CORE you may be asked to chair such a committee.

c. Members are expected to undertake one or more ongoing responsibilities, e.g.: acquisition of supplies, cleaning, preparing or distributing press releases or flyers, bulletin board updates, emailing notices, painting, recycling, archives, telephoning, etc.

d. Members are expected to make an effort to attend each Opening Reception thereby supporting their fellow member artist and contributing to the community that is CORE.

Please be aware that, though these responsibilities can take as little a 8 hours per month actually spent at the gallery, they can also involve jobs to be done at home or several evenings of work at the gallery during the hanging of an open-entry show, and an additional meeting or two a year for the planning committees on which ALL members sit.

When considering joining CORE, we ask that you think long and hard about the various types of obstacles which may hinder the fulfillment of your responsibilities to the other CORE members. These might include courses you are taking, jobs you hold, other conflicting commitments, trips or long leaves of absence, adverse weather and road conditions. Compliance may become more difficult with the physical distance between the gallery and the member. For instance, if one lives outside the Denver calling area and you need to find a shift replacement, many long-distance calls may be necessary. Or perhaps, a winter storm could keep a member from reaching the gallery or from leaving it to return home.

On the other hand, it is through the performance of these responsibilities that many of the benefits of membership accrue. We are a vital, dynamic group of artists, respected in the Denver art community by our peers, by other galleries, and by the press. We present cutting edge, contemporary art in the Santa Fe Art District and are not bound by the forces of the marketplace, the requirement to be politically of socially "correct", or by having to please anyone but ourselves. We are free to explore our own vision, and are constantly challenging by the new work of our fellow members.

Application involves completing the general application form, your artist statement, and submitting a portfolio of 10 representative slides or photos of your work. Applications are first screened by the membership committee. Upon recommendation of the membership committee, you will be contacted to present your original art and answer questions before the full membership. Final acceptance of your application requires a majority vote of the full members. We review applications until the membership is full but will keep your application on file until an opening is available. Application forms are available at the gallery, or online. If you are interested in becoming a member, please submit your slides and completed application to:
