The circles began as an almost unconcious,  organic movement of line, a rebellion against the hard-edged, linear abstraction I'd been stuck on.  As the work progressed I began to see them as windows or, perhaps, containers, granting the viewer access to what was behind them or held within their edges.

It got me thinking about group dynamics and clusters and cliques, about not only the similarities and differences that we show, but the ones that we hide from one another as well.

I want the viewer to see what they see - I don't want to dictate "this is what this means" or whatever.  I whole-heartedly feel that, contrary to what some people may think, abstract painting does indeed have meaning.  I believe people get too hung up on trying to "understand" abstract painting, which may limit them and/or even keep them from enjoying it.
