Even though I have a wonderful and fulfilling life, my art is way for me to escape and to express
myself. I enjoy painting people I love and images I find beautiful.

I first began painting portraits of the female members of my family. My mother, grandmother and two older sisters have completely shaped my ideal of what a real woman is. I feel that they are
reflected in every female painting or portrait I do.

This ideal of womanhood and femininity is conveyed in my female nudes. My female figures have a sense of quiet power and beauty. The figures are typically self-illuminated.

Moving to Colorado from the Midwest gave me new and beautiful things to paint and rekindled my love for art and painting. The Rocky Mountains and the Great Sand Dunes provide endless inspiration for me. I choose not to paint them in a realistic manner because they are so magical and surreal. It is very important for me to interpret their beauty in my own personal and unique way.

I use my two favorite mediums, acrylic and watercolor, both in a very similar ways. I like to use color right out of the tube and layer it in glazes on the canvas or paper. I try not to put too much thought in the colors I choose. I like to rely on instinct.
